Although many look to Cristiano Ronaldo to win games, let’s not forget that football is a team sport and one player can’t do it alone. According to The Guardian, a U.K. based newspaper, Cristiano Ronaldo is intent on playing for Manchester, next year. Cristiano is quoted:

“I’m sure Perez would create an breathtaking team at Madrid but at the moment I’m at United and I don’t care about what happens there. I only care about what will happen next season at Manchester United.”

This may be the final nail in a long drawn media battle between Manchester and Real Madrid that has spanned two Madrid Presidents. Although there is obviously no way to be certain that Cristiano will stay at Manchester, at this stage in the game, Cristiano seems intent on putting out and fires regarding his future, effectively stopping the gossip.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s stance on his staying at Manchester is a clear indication that he is maturing, and thinking about the consequences of his words. He has fought a long battle with Public Relations for quite some time, and seems intent on mending his relationship with Manchester fans specifically and U.K. soccer fans in general. We can only hope that Crisitiano Ronaldo keeps focus and does not fall for journalistic double talk, as long as he is clear that he will remain at Manchester United.

According to the interview Alex Ferguson’s view on who he thinks are the greatest football players in the world today is not surprising, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi topping the list. What is surprising is that althoughSir Alex Ferguson is impressed by Kaka, Sir Alex went on to state that Kaka “has never really taken my breath away”. This is a clear indication that Kaka’s star is fading quickly, and that the new kinds of football are now Ronaldo and Messi.

There is no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi are indeed great footballers, but what seems to set them apart from other footballers is their hard work and commitment. Sir Alex Ferguson stated that any player ‘willing to sacrifice himself after training” has the hallmark of a great player. Both Messi and Cristiano are famous for their hard work, to the point of obsessiveness, spending hours after a training session to work on parts of their game. Cristiano Ronaldo has used the extra time to improve his free kick, which is the equivalent of a Major League Baseball Knuckle ball, effectively removing spin from the ball and causing havoc on a goalies capacity to anticipate direction.

When Manchester and Barcelona face off next week, it will be an exacting, dramatic event that will attract millions of viewers from all over the world, many will be watching to see the two top players, Crsitiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
