The Prize is given out each year to Portuguese who have boosted the image of their nation through their accolades. Previous winners include notable figures like Nobel of Literature Jose Saramago and architect Alvaro Siza Vieira.

Although Cristiano Ronaldo has been allotted the prize this year, apparently he has yet to communicate his acceptance.

AIPE’s president, Belen Rodrigo stated that  “We have made easy to set a date of the prize ceremony because he know the agenda of the soccer players is complicated. Even though, weDidn’t get answer and they delayed it till the limit”

If Cristiano Ronaldo is indeed set on rejecting the award, there will undoubtedly be a number of people who will feel that he is rejecting his duty to his nation. Once again, rejection of the award will create another negative impression in the media, which may in turn stir up another round of negative speculation regarding Cristiano’s Allegiances.

We hope that Cristiano Ronaldo reconsiders his acceptance of the award, but it is his choice after all, and as fans, we respect his choice.
