The goal arrived at the 48th minute, when Quito defender, Norberto Araujo tripped Ronaldo in the penalty area after Ronaldo’s sensational move to get past two Quito defenders.  The penalty was taken in the recognizable Ronaldo fashion with the pause before the shot.  Cristiano Ronaldo set  the next goal for Real Madrid just five minutes afterward, after his kick was fumbled by the goalkeeper right into the feet Esteban Granero.

On a side note, Quito’s coach, Jorge Fossati was ejected from the game after his embarrasing stroll onto the area of play to  protest the penalty awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo, which was absolutelya correct decision by the referee.

Real Madrid needed a victory in yesterday’s match to move on to the semi-finals of the Peace Cup that’ll continue on Friday versus Juventus in Seville Spain.
